Mervyn was born in 1945 in the county of Essex. He decided in 1977 to change direction and pursue his interests in the world of fine art. He enrolled on a Foundation course in his home town of Loughton followed by a fine art degree at Nottingham College of Art. There was no going back. He had arrived, exploring and digging deep into all that is ‘art’. On his return to London he lived and became a part of the growing creative community of Metropolitan Wharf, Wapping and this led to his first one man show at Moira Kelly Fine Art, London. He was now a part of the London art community of the time with shows at home and abroad. Mervyn’s work is an exploration fuelled by his love of reading, films, music, and all that is creative. He gets on the train and visits exhibitions of the great painters past and present, a historical context is an important part of the platform on which his work in the studio flourishes.
All is transitory, the imagery of the 1980 and 1990 periods has now shown up as abstract in his current portfolio. His paintings can be found in private and commercial collections, to include Achim Moeller Limited, Coopers and Lybrand, Universal Marina Southampton, Tim Sayer, European Parliament Luxembourg, Nancy Balfour, National Art Gallery Kuala Lumpur,Towner Art Gallery Eastbourne.
